Allen, Robert Woodrow "Woody" ,"Bob" or "Lurch", 80 years born in Nacogdoches, Texas August 4, 1931. Passed from this life at home in Cedar Hill, Texas on Friday, May 18, 2012.
Survived by his wife of 40 years Janelle Daniel Allen of Cedar Hill, Texas and 5 children: Becky Allen Kennemer and husband Mark of Cedar Hill, Texas, Teresa Williams Godwin and husband Jim of Boone, NC, Stephen Kelly Williams of Anna, Texas, Annette Williams Birchler and husband Ron of Plano, Texas and Shawn Kevin Williams of Mesquite, Texas. Bob is blessed to have 9 grandchildren: Amanda Weldon Crawford, Haley Trammell Collins, Shauna Godwin Hamby, Toni Williams, Clay Williams, Danielle Birchler, Mallory Williams, Gabrielle Godwin and Kari Birchler and 2 great grandchildren, Chayston Crawford and Brayden Collins that will carry on his positive words of wisdom in life.
Being the fifth child from a family of thirteen children, Bob came to Dallas as a young man with just cents in his pocket and promised he would succeed in the big city. He was happy to work several part-time jobs one being with Neal Fletcher, founder of the famous "Fletcher Corny Dog" at the State Fair of Texas. This opened up a path to one of Bob's greatest thrills when he was handed the job of operations expert to run the original wooden roller coaster "The Comet". Bob and his family were a fixture during the State Fair from 1976-86.
Bob served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict after discharge came back to Dallas and worked as a telephone line repairman for Southwestern Bell/AT&T for 35 years. He is a member of the Cedar Hill Masonic Lodge/Hella Shine, VFW Post in Duncanville, Texas, American Legion Post #81 in Duncanville, Texas and a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #81.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings, but his faithful little dog, Sissy followed him in death on Saturday, May 20, 2012.
Bob lived a big life….he adored his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and animals! He loved to barbecue for all and play his banjo……as he would say to people when they would off load at "The Comet" roller coaster, "raise your bars and exit to the right! Bravo to a life well lived.
